Hello World!
It's an interesting time. The new house needs a lot of work, a lot of expensive work, and I spend a lot of time doing magic with numbers to plan and prioritize repairs and upgrades. And work is heavier and more stressful as I absorb more responsibilities. The pay is good, but it's still not caught up, yet it's still better overall than what I'd get at another company. I have recently learned that this is called "Golden Handcuffs", and I really can't wait to start making income outside of work to both beef up my savings and, once all the repairs are completed, possibly leave this job.
But it's not all bad, this blog's new home looks super nice, does it not?!
And it's fully mine.
Sure, I host it on neocities, and I do rely on cloudflare for my domain name and stuff, but it's mine mine. I can host whatever I like, so I can start rehosting all my old stuff! No suicidal tumblr CEOs to ruin things for all of us.
I'm also looking to add RSS for people who want to get a feed.
And I'm also looking to emulate and improve upon the tumblr format.
And, like, look, I get part of why tumblr did what they did: it's difficult to monitor illegal content at scale, and financial concerns are real. But in a world where twitter can host csam-and-revenge-porn AI material, and still get ad revenue and still process payments, I question whether other platforms can't allow for adult content.
Because, frankly, it's kinda messed up that you can post violence all day long - Steam is a platform in which the vast majority of titles have some form of violence, and the bigger ones cream themselves over how "realistic" their violence is. But sex is too much? Truly, we have our priorities ass-backwards; no wonder we have a gun violence problem, and a lot of bad things can be traced back to gender.
Anyways, all of this is to say that if I'm successful with this, I might try and do a tumblr for content creators. Maybe piggyback off ATProto (the thing that powers bsky and blacksky and a few other platforms).
But first I'll need financial independence, and for that I need to expand my reach. And for that, hopefully, this new blog will help.
But it's not all about me.
I want to take a moment, actually, to thank you for reading this. Whether you're new here, or you've been reading me from the blogger days, or you've known me from the tumblr days, I appreciate you. And I hope that you, too, enjoy this new format. I currently don't have the ability to leave messages here, but you can reach me at my bsky or shoot me an email.
